Here are 5 tips to help you carry your baby in a baby carriage

Do you find that your baby isn’t sitting right in the carrier? These are baby carriage some other tips and hints that you might want to keep in mind when carrying your baby.

Proper support for your child’s head

Are you able to support your baby’s head while they are in your arms? When your baby is awake, is their neck properly supported? You may need to provide additional support if they are not. Many baby carriers come with a foldable “flap”. To provide additional support, you can use a rolled up hydrophilic/tetra cloth/sunshade.

Do not overstretch your baby carrier. Your child should still be able to move around and breathe freely. There should be approximately two fingers between your baby’s chin, and the chest of the person who is carrying them. Your child should be at the perfect height for kissing.

Babymatters tip When you are carrying your child with their head outwards, make sure to tilt their pelvis forward. This is done by placing your hands underneath your child’s bottom and pushing their buttocks forwards/upwards.

You and your child will feel at ease

You shouldn’t feel extra weight while carrying your baby on either your stomach or back. The straps can be adjusted to ensure that your baby is always comfortable while being carried.

Babymatters tip You need to be able to tighten the straps easily and they should feel comfortable. Comfort pads that can be removed are great for making carrying more comfortable.

Frog position for healthy hips

Are your baby’s legs extended? Or are they hanging down? If they are, it is likely that their knees don’t support enough and they cannot (yet?) adopt a good frog posture. This position will allow your child to have their knees higher than their bottom. This is healthier for their hips and legs.

BABYmatters tip Do you place your baby on your stomach with their faces outwards? Make sure that they are in the correct position. A baby carrier that has an inflatable cushion inside can be used to help create a comfortable position.
